AI Workforce Training and Literacy Policy

Sets curriculum and cadence for AI awareness programs.

Owner: Learning & Development Lead

Purpose

Build AI literacy across the organization so employees understand responsibilities, risks, and approved tools when building or using AI solutions.

Scope

Applies to all employees, contractors, and partners, with role-specific depth for engineering, product, compliance, sales, and support teams.

  • Mandatory foundational training for all staff
  • Role-specific modules (developers, data scientists, GRC, customer-facing teams)
  • Annual refresher requirements

Definitions

  • Learning Path: Sequence of modules tailored to a role (e.g., developer, product manager).
  • Completion Tracking: System logging training status, dates, and assessments.
  • Awareness Campaign: Communication initiative reinforcing policy updates or emerging risks.

Policy

Employees must complete foundational AI literacy training within 30 days of onboarding and role-specific curricula within 60 days of assignment. Annual refresher modules are mandatory. Completion status must feed the governance dashboard.

Roles and Responsibilities

Learning & Development designs curricula and tracks completion. Responsible AI supplies content on ethics and governance. Managers enforce participation. HR integrates training into onboarding/offboarding workflows.

Procedures

Training program must include:

  • Foundational module covering AI basics, governance policies, acceptable use.
  • Role-based courses (developers: secure coding; product: transparency; GRC: regulation).
  • Assessments to validate comprehension; passing score ≥ 80%.
  • Awareness campaigns for significant policy or regulatory changes.
  • Reporting dashboards for leadership with completion and overdue metrics.

Exceptions

Temporary waivers may be granted for short-term contractors (≤ 30 days) with limited system access, provided they receive condensed acceptable use briefings.

Review Cadence

Curricula reviewed biannually to incorporate new regulations, technologies, and incident learnings.
